The quality of health care available in Beijing has improved dramatically in a relatively short period of time. Gone are the days when foreigners in need of expert medical attention carted themselves home or to Hong Kong for procedures.
Beijing’s state-run hospitals, while generally good, vary significantly in terms of the type care they are able to offer. The one listed below are regarded as among the best state-run hospitals, where most doctors speak English and have overseas training or experience. Facilities there are very good, the care is highly professional and the prices of consultations, operations and medication are a fraction of those charged by private institutions.
If price is not an issue and/or you seek highly personalized care, visit one of the city’s private, foreign-invested facilities with expatriate or overseas-trained medical staff speaking many languages and offering out-patient services for everything from general check-ups to neurology. These facilities don’t require membership, but sometimes it helps reduce costs.
